My phone rings. I let it ring a few times before I look at the caller. “God”, I see staring back at me from my screen.
“Hello,” I answer with both excitement and trepidation. I had been standing here for a few hours already. People were starting to look at me funny, and one lady even asked if I was okay.
“Yes, I’m good,” I answer. “Someone will be fetching me soon.” The truth is, I didn’t know that for sure. All I knew is that God nudged me to pack up and wait at this spot. No further instructions were shared. So here I am waiting at this bus stop for something to happen.
Back on the phone, I hear the Lord’s still small voice share with me, “I’m on my way. Just wait.” The line sounds grainy and immediately cuts off. That’s all good with me though. He said He’s on His way! This means that He’ll be here any minute now. I begin to smile, and my face relaxes. I actually notice the beautiful surroundings. The sky is an exceptional shade of blue, and the air feels light. I start talking to people at the bus stop or those passing by.
“Let me tell you about how I got here.” I share my testimony and end off with the promise that the Lord has given me. “It’s going to happen any minute now.”
But the seconds turn into minutes, and the minutes turn into hours. The people who I was speaking to have their bus arrive, and one by one they leave me alone.
“Don’t you want to climb on with me?” One of the ladies asks. I hesitate for a minute. It’s been hours; I’m running out of food, and my body is sore from the sit/stand position that I have to maintain at this bus stop. I almost enter the bus; my whole body screams for me to get on the bus. But I stop myself at the door.
“No, He said He’s coming. I need to wait.”
The people on the bus stare at me in disbelief, and as the bus drives away, even I cannot believe that I didn’t get on. All I have to hold onto is a promise from the Lord, “I’m on my way. Just wait.”

I realise that some of us are right here now. The Lord has spoken something to us, and against all worldly knowledge, we have taken Him at His Word. Now we find ourselves in the in-between – between the promise and the fulfilment.
“I wonder what this place is called?” I ask myself. I look at the sign on the bus stop and see that it reads, “Trust”.
This is where trust in God is built. This is where the knowledge of who He is and who we know Him to be is tested.
Jeremiah 17:7-8 says,
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
Among other things, the scripture is teaching us that it is our TRUST in GOD that sustains us. We will not fear when heat comes – when difficulty comes, we will not be afraid; our leaves will be green – we will remain refreshed and consistent; we will not worry in a year of drought – when things seem chaotic around us, we will not be anxious; and we will never fail to bear fruit – this speaks for itself!
All of this is due to one thing – our TRUST in God.

Cut to scene.
It is now dark all around me except for the dim street light above the bus stop. I have now sunk to the floor from exhaustion, and tears cover my arms as I rest my head on my knees. But somehow, I remember my decision, “God, I know what you told me; I choose to trust YOU.”
Then out of nowhere, I see headlights coming my way. They are so bright that I have to hold my hands up to shield my eyes. Someone gets out the front door, and as soon as I see Him, I breathe out a deep sigh of relief.
“I knew you would come.” I say, my tired eyes beaming.
“I told you that I would, and now, you have something that nobody can take away from you.” He says, as He gently helps me up and takes my heavy bag.
“What’s that?” I ask.
“Unwavering trust in me. You’re going to need it for where I take you next.”
We drive off, and I finally fall asleep in the passenger seat.
The promise is not far away now, but what’s more important is the promise Giver and Keeper is right next to me. My priorities have shifted during the wait. Now I know it’s not the promise that I was waiting on; it was Him all along.
